vintage citrate print, from photographic diary by Victor Collin de Plancy (1853-1922). The author was probably a correspondent for "L'Étoile belge" and "Le Matin" at the time. He was probably sent to China to cover the Boxer Rebellion. Some photographs have the name of the author written in ink under the image, notably Paul Splingaerd, the Belgian Mandarin.
